Discount Calculator — Final Price and Amount Saved
A discount calculator turns a sale price into a clear answer in seconds: how much you save, and what you actually pay.
Discount Calculator
What this tool does
Enter an original price and a discount percentage, and the tool shows the amount saved and the price you pay. It is useful in shops, for online sales, and for checking whether a “deal” really is one.
How to use it, step by step
- Type the full original price, before any discount.
- Type the discount as a number, for example 25 for 25%.
- Press Calculate.
- Compare the saving and the final price before deciding to buy.
Worked example
Shoes cost 120 with 30% off. The saving is 120 × 30 ÷ 100 = 36. The final price is 120 − 36 = 84. If a second shop offers the same shoes at 90 with no discount, the first shop is still cheaper, even though 90 sounds simple.
Common mistakes
- Applying the discount twice: a further 10% off an already discounted price is 10% of the lower price, not 10% of the original.
- Ignoring extra costs: delivery, tax or fees can change the real total, so check the checkout total too.
- Assuming a bigger percentage is always better: 50% off an inflated starting price can cost more than a smaller discount on a fair price.
Frequently asked questions
How is the final price worked out?
Final price = original price − (original price × discount ÷ 100).
What if the discount is over 100%?
That would mean the seller pays you, which is not a normal sale. Check the numbers if you see a result below zero.
Does this include tax?
No. This tool calculates the discount only. Add tax separately if it applies in your country or shop.
Can I use it for two discounts in a row?
Yes, but in two steps: use the final price from the first calculation as the original price for the second.
